Monarch Aircraft Engineering inspires the next generation

Monarch Aircraft Engineering Limited (MAEL), celebrating 50 years as a leading MRO, this week hosted a learning day for year six students at Farley Junior School, Luton.

 

The day formed part of the Enabling Enterprise programme and 15 student’s visited MAEL’s Luton hangar. They day would inspire and motivate pupils and teach them about the engineering workplace, the sector MAEL works in and the key skills staff use within their roles throughout the business.

 

Enabling Enterprise is an award winning social enterprise and works with schools and businesses to help develop the skills and aspirations that children need to succeed. A second group will be visiting MAEL next month and get an insight into a real working environment.

 

The day combined introductions to the business, a tour of the workplace and a challenge for the students. The group were also lucky enough to visit the inside of a cockpit on one of the aircraft that was in the hangar. For some students this was their first time boarding an aircraft and for all it was the first time they have been inside a cockpit.

We would like to thank everyone at Monarch Aircraft Engineering and Enabling Enterprise for hosting a wonderful day for our year six class. The students and teachers from Farley Junior School thoroughly enjoyed their day with the highlight for all being the cockpit visit. As a result we can see the day has certainly inspired and motivated all of the students.

Business Development Manager at MAEL, Andy Lowi welcomed the students by introducing the company and answering any questions posed by the inquisitive students. He said: “The students were very enthusiastic throughout the day. Quieter members of the teams were really engaged and the more dynamic members learned to listen during the day, developing the key skills encouraged by Enabling Enterprise.

“Self-confidence grew and the class stayed engaged and positive throughout. I saw students develop their presenting skills, problem solving and ability to stay positive.”
