Interim Managing Director
Ian joined Monarch in 2003 as Marketing Sales Manager and progressed to Head of Sales and Marketing before being promoted to the board of Monarch Aircraft Engineering. With responsibility for directing the sales and marketing department, including the acquisition of new business, all commercial contracts and supply chain activities comprising technical procurement and warehousing and logistics, Ian is also responsible for the Monarch Aircraft Engineering Training Academy (MAETA). In August 2014, Ian was appointed Interim Managing Director of Monarch Aircraft Engineering, taking his place on the Group Executive Committee.
With over 25 years’ experience in the aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul industry (MRO) Ian has previously been involved in leading large business transformation projects within the MRO sector and held senior commercial management positions at Air UK and KLM UK Engineering, where he was managing large teams responsible for major commercial contracts, purchasing and logistics both within the UK and the Netherlands.
Ian is also a member of the Institute of Directors and Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and holds formal management qualifications.
Compliance and Service Delivery Director
Derek began his career as an apprentice with Monarch in 1981 and worked as an aircraft engineer on the Monarch fleet until 1987.
He then took up several sales roles outside of the aviation sector before returning to Monarch in 1991 as a Sales Engineer, moving to a more senior sales role until joining KLM UK as Head of Engineering Marketing and Sales between 1996 and 1999.
He returned to Monarch as Sales and Marketing Manager and in 2003 was promoted to Commercial Director, where he had responsibility for logistics, procurement, sales and customer service. 2006 saw him take on the position of Operations Director alongside his other responsibilities with sister company Monarch Technical Support before his role was expanded to cover the leadership and development of the sales division by becoming Sales and Marketing Director.
Derek then took his breadth of experience to the role of Maintenance and Operations Director in 2010 and in 2014 the role was enhanced to Compliance and Service Delivery Director. He has overall responsibility for all of Monarch Aircraft Engineering’s operational requirements including base and line maintenance, the role also encompasses compliance and allows for great influence in delivering the exceptional customer service Monarch are rightly known to provide.

Continued Airworthiness Management Director, Monarch Airlines
Keith joined Monarch in December 2010 as Engineering Director and is responsible for the management of Continuing Airworthiness activities undertaken by Monarch’s Technical Services and Planning functions. He is also responsible for the management of the Design and Projects team within the business.
Prior to joining Monarch, Keith was with Cobham Aviation Services (FR Aviation), where he spent 6 years as Contract Manager, Chief Engineer and most recently, Engineering Director responsible for Line and Base maintenance for a fleet of 26 aircraft. Before his time at Cobham Aviation Services, Keith also spent 2 years as Director of Engineering at Emerald Airways Engineering as well as over a decade working as an Engineer with the RAF.
In 2014 Keith took an additional role as Continued Airworthiness Management Director for Monarch Airlines to align with EASA regulations changes for AOC holders and Safety Management Systems.
Wal Mackey had nine years with "Big Four" accountancy firm KPMG in Auckland, Sydney and London, mainly involved in audits and acquisitions.
He held a number of Finance Director positions before his appointment at Monarch Aircraft Engineering Limited in February 2010, including nine years at engineering group Atlas Copco and three years at printing and packaging group Boxes Holdings Limited.
Group Human Resources Director
Pauline is responsible for all aspects of HR for all the businesses within the Monarch Group. She joined Monarch in June 2009 initially as HR Director for the Airline and Engineering businesses moving to the expanded Group HR Director role in May 2010.
Prior to joining Monarch, Pauline had spent 30 years in the automotive sector with General Motors (GM) where she held a range of senior HR Management positions within the warehousing, manufacturing and corporate divisions both in the UK and Europe.
Group Information Services Director
Chris joined Monarch in October 2011 as Group Information Services Director and is responsible for managing all IT requirements across the Group.
As well as overseeing the day-to-day IT operations within each Group company, ensuring that software systems are both maintained and developed to meet each business' need, Chris is responsible for driving forward and delivering technological advancements across the Group. He also leads the development of the Retail and Online division, web development and programme management across all the Group companies.
Chris joined The Monarch Group from the Merlin Entertainments Group/The Tussauds Group, where he worked for 12 years and held the position of IT Director. Prior to this he spent six years with Coca Cola and Schweppes Beverages Ltd as Network Services Manager.
